About this place
A bowl arrives enveloped in steam, carrying the clear aroma of savory broth and fresh herbs. One of the signature dishes at Kyoto Vietnamese Beto Kitchen, located in Chudoji Kitamachi, Shimogyo Ward, is the gentle chicken pho, built on a chicken bone broth simmered for over 10 hours. Combining rice noodles shipped directly from Vietnam with Kyoto-grown Kujo green onions, the dish delivers a soothing, clean profile with deep savory depth, making it an easy pick for a casual midday meal.
The noodle offerings extend well beyond pho. Regional Vietnamese specialties include hu tieu, featuring chewy tapioca noodles in a seafood-based broth; Hanoi-style bun cha, pairing char-grilled pork patties and fried spring rolls with a sweet and sour dipping broth; and spicy bun bo Hue, accented by lemongrass. Midday diners can take advantage of lunch sets that pair a choice of noodles with both fresh and fried spring rolls, mild chicken curry, and small side dishes, ideal for tasting across the menu in one sitting.
The beverage and dessert selection offers plenty of reason to linger after the meal. Alongside classic Vietnamese coffee sweetened with rich condensed milk, the menu features specialty preparations such as egg cream coffee and Vietnamese coffee blended with yogurt, balancing sweetness and gentle bitterness. Sweet courses range from assorted bean and mung bean che to black rice yogurt, jackfruit yogurt, and caramel-topped Vietnamese flan, giving the finish the relaxed feel of an afternoon cafe.
In addition to counter seating on the ground floor, the restaurant offers seating on the second floor, comfortably accommodating solo diners popping in for lunch as well as groups gathering for an evening meal. Beto Kitchen is open daily except Wednesdays, with lunch served from 11:30 to 15:00 and dinner from 17:30 to 22:00.
